2016 Week 9

Exeter Demons 11 - Cardiff Cobras 14

Exeter made the long journey north in week 9 looking for a win to give them a shot at the division and cement their playoff aspirations. The game was moved to the 3g in Bristol due to adverse field conditions at Llanrumney, and also played on the Saturday as Cardiff prepared to celebrate their 30th anniversary on the Saturday night.

Expected to be a tough game after the first meeting finished 14-12 to Cardiff, this game lived up to expecations. Exeter took an early lead and extended it each side of the half with a safety and a field goal, before repeated strong punts from Cardiff finally pinned Exeter deep inside their own 20 at the end of the 3rd, their punter failed to clear the lines, and Cardiff finally capitalised to punch home a score. A second score under similar cicumstances in the 4th, and a 2 point conversion was enough to secure victory against a very tough side, and took Cardiff to 6-0 on the season. Oxford's loss the following day guaranteed Cardiff the divisional title.
